Gall’s Law

Definition

Gall’s Law: all complex systems that work evolved from simpler systems that worked. Complex systems are full of variables and [Interdependence] that must be arranged just right in order to function. Gall’s Law is a [rule of thumb] for [systems design] from Gall’s book Systemantics: How Systems Really Work and How They Fail. It states:

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system.
